No transaction to explain an increasing negative balance

On 19/09/2012, I received an e-mail from PayPal to say PayPal has made a transfer between the balances in my account for an outstanding balance in Euro to British Pound. The negative balance was -4.58 EUR However, when I check all my previous transaction history, there is no transaction to show what caused this negative balance of 4.58 EUR.  My account has been unused for months, and has always been at 0.00 GBP. Even when I go back to check the transaction history, there is no transaction that caused it to be -4.58 EUR.

The negative balance was converted to 3.68 GBP. However, now my account shows a negative balance of 3.80 GBP. Why was my account in negative balance in the first place, and why does the negative amount keep increasing?

Hi jimjamz,

Did you have any buyer disputes opened against you that may have led to a negative balance or any failed payments from your bank account. I would recommend that you review your history to see if there was any failed payments or reversed payments. This should give you the reason why your account is negative.

Also sometimes negative balances can fluctuate with currency conversion as when your balance is negative for some time it may be converted. You will only have to pay the original negative balance on the account.

I hope this helps answer your question and thank you for your post

There are three points I'd like to make:

1) I can't tell which transaction resulted in the negative balance.  What would be helpful is if during the transaction history, it showed the balance at that time as a result of the transaction.

2) Today the outstanding balance is £3.79 GBP so it proves that the balance constantly fluctuates.  But why does it do this?  I should be charged the amount that was requested at the time of conversion.  Outstanding debt should not be re-calculated thereafter

 3) I had a dispute a long time ago, but the amount was settled in GBP.  I only ever make transactions in GBP.  It's possible that if there were insufficient funds in my account, then this resulted in a negative balance.  However, the outstanding balance was in EUR.  Then later, it was converted back to GBP.  Why was it converted twice?
