Shipped item with USPS insured. Buyer claimed item not received

I sold an item and shipped using insured USPS. The buyer claimed he has not received the item. It has been 10 days. This the 2nd time this happened to me. The first time I lost my receipt so I know I will lose a dispute and promptly refunded. This time I have all my receipts and I'm going to the post office tomorrow to track this thing down. The buyer has not filed for dispute yet. But I smell it coming. What is the chance of me losing if I provide all the evidence to paypal?

If you do not have a tracking number you are going to lose...if you paid insurance and you file a claim with usps, they will check to see if the package was delivered...if so they will deny your claim...and as for paypal they are not going to care about the insurance...they want the confirmation or signature.

Hello iversonyin

Welcome to PayPal's Community Forum.  Good job on being proactive in regards to this transaction.  If a buyer files a claim for non receipt then you will need to provide online tracking which shows delivery.   Additionally, a signature from the recipient will be needed if the purchase was equal to $250.00 or more.

Typically if you purchase insurance, the tracking number they provide you can only be tracked internally by USPS and can not be viewed online by PayPal.  PayPal will only accept online tracking to help validate a claim but you may be able to file an insurance claim with USPS to recover your money if the buyer files a claim with PayPal and wins.

The only way you can protect tourself is with online tracking number, something paypal can see online to confirm your item was delivered. a receip from the postal office will not do it
