Delta Magazine Group is a scam

On February 2, 2010 I ordered People Magazine through Delta Magazine Group. I had ordered this same magazine for my daughter the prior year and everything went fine. This time I changed the subscription to my name and paid the $94.95 subscription price with my PayPal account. Delta's website says it would take 12 weeks for the subscription to begin. I have been trying to contact them for over 30 days and they are not reachable, yet they are still taking people's money through their website. Their website says they are experiencing technical difficulties with their emails ONLY and if for any reason you have questions regarding your order, please call them at 800-728-3728. When you call that number the line is either busy or rings and rings and no one ever answers. I also tried calling them at 800-557-8294. Their address is 1274 49th Street STE 361, Brooklyn, NY 11219. Their web address is www.deltamagazines.com.
I went to the web to see if others had complained about them and found HUNDREDS of recent complaints on www.pricegrabber.com, www.merchantcircle.com & www.bigbigforums.com. I wish I would have checked them out more closely but others complain of my same situation--they had used them before and this time they were SCAMMED. I don't understand how they can be allowed to still have their website up and collecting money from people.

If you used a credit card to pay for the item, file a chargeback by calling the customer service number on the back of the card.

The same thing happened to me...I have been trying to call since late April to check on my People and US magazine orders that I placed on January 21!!! I filed a claim with Paypal and they "closed" the case...what they don't realize is this company tells you to wait up to 12 weeks or more for your subscription to start so that no one can file a claim because it's outside the time limit! I just don't understand how people can get away from flat out fraud and theft and no one does anything about it. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in NY today.

Not only is Delta Magazines a scam, but Paypal is a scam for supporting them because they collect fees from the transactions.
Paypal has received complaints about Delta Magazines, but does not bother to try to contact the business (there is NOBODY THERE)
It should revise it's resolution policy to accommodate issues like magazine subscriptions which take a while to start, or not collect money for business that state they cannot deliver product or service within Paypal's 45-day dispute period.

It's your money - why are you doing business with a company that says it cannot deliver within the 45-day period?
Take some responsibility for your OWN actions.

Paypal is profiting off of a scam by not following up on numerous complaints and dropping this business.
You have it backwards.

No, I do not.
The reality is that there are all sorts of scams out there.
If you go carousing through the net, ignoring your reponsibility to safeguard your money, you're going to get taken to the cleaners time and again.
There are ways to protect yourself - blaming Paypal may sound like a nice, easy solution, but it won't protect you from the next scam.
This applies no matter what payment service you use.

Paypal is profiting off this scam. Period.
They refuse to extend their resolution time frame for product/service that obviously takes more than 45 days to deliver.
So either don't pretend stand behind and mediate disputes arising from non-delivery, or admit they participate in the scam by supporting the business.

btw, I have been using Delta Magazine for years and also paying for my renewals for years through paypal.
There have been many recent complaints and Paypal refuses to follow up on them, otherwise, they would have dropped this business.
Paypal has earned enough fees through the years from Delta to pay for the recent disputes, in the same way a credit card company uses their profits (or pull) to make good on a sale.

Magazine orders take 6-8 weeks for delivery. This isn't unusual. The problem surfaces when no magazine is received, yet it is too late to file a complaint with PayPal's Resolution Department since it has a 45-day window for filing.
If you've used an online store for ordering magazines in the past with no problems, you'd think it would be fine to use them again. Obviously, NOW that is not the case with Delta Magazine Group. I reordered a magazine in March, paid via PayPal, and was scammed by Delta this time.
It's not enough to complain to PayPal.
If you ecounter the same situation, go to Internet Crime Complaint Center at http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
Have to admit, I've been shopping online for quite a while, but this is the first time I know I was rooked.
