Victim of Scam and PayPal false Promises

Hi all, I recently purchased a PlayStation £100 voucher for my brothers birthday, I became aware he no longer uses the PlayStation so I listed my voucher on eBay. I received an offer from a buyer for £90 within the hour I listed it, they said “only accept it you can send me the code through messages.” I thought this was a good offer and decent amount of my money back so I accepted. I received the money and sent them the code so all was good. Then an hour late I received a message from eBay saying the buyer reported their account was hacked and they never made the purchase so the funds were put on hold while PayPal investigates. I spoke to several PayPal agents who assured me since I had done nothing wrong I would be protected as a seller. To my surprise this morning I received another message from PayPal saying they sided with the buyer and gave them a full refund while I am entitled to no compensation despite my detailed evidence of the whole transaction taking place including my messages with the buyer and a receipt of my actual purchase of the voucher. I phoned PayPal and waited for an hour and 40 mins being passed between agents until I was told by quite a patronising agent that I was not protected as a seller due to it being an intangible good and as I did not provide tracking. I am absolutely disgusted with how this has been handled, I’ve been made to feel like I have done something wrong when I am as much a victim of scamming than anyone else in this situation. The fact that I was assure so many times that I would receive my money by PayPal only adds more fuel to the fire of my disappointment. I’m an artist not a businessman and because of my naivety and trust in PayPal I have no lost £100. I’m so letdown by everything that I really have no desire to ever use PayPal again, I guess I’m looking to find out is there any hope or anything I can do to try and get my money back. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks for taking the time to read🙌 Kind Regards, Dean

Sadly there is no paypal seller protection for intangible or digital items, you can sell them but at your own risk.

Your only option if you have enough proof and info on your buyer is the small claims court (if you win he foots all the legal charges).

yo are one of many who fail to read PaYPAL terms and agreement, what is seller protection and what goods and services do not qualify for protection.

yes, digital goods have no tracking to show it has been delivered, you lose.

Your buyer is a scammer, who just pounce on sellers like you,you should mail him the coupon with tracking.

now go and report him to Ebay so someday he will be suspended from buying.
