Seller sent defective item, but he's lying and claiming it's not the one he sent.

I bought a Game Boy Advance SP online through the Facebook marketplace. The seller said it was in working condition. So I decided it would be a good buy. When I received it though, it had a broken charging port and will not power on anymore as I cannot charge it. I told the seller of this issue and sent him the pictures, he just says that it's not the Game Boy he sent me and that his was working. But he is lying and will not give me a refund. I paid him through PayPal goods and services. What can I do in this situation? I don't want to be stuck with a brick.

Locate the payment transaction in your PayPal account activity, click it, then click "Report a problem" to file an Significantly Not As Described (SNAD) dispute.

Please be careful with buying at the Facebook Marketplace. Nothing there is vetted and it's random merchants and sellers you ain't ever heard of selling who knows what. Stick with tried and true merchants and names.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Yeah, I opened the dispute on there now. How long do I have to wait for PayPal to intervene in this? It currently just sent the message to the seller (technically his friend's PayPal account since he used that for this transaction).

The seller now says that he will refund, but he wants the item back first. How do I make sure that he won't just file a claim that he never received the same item back? I don't really trust the guy anymore on how he responded to my message, when he was claiming it wasn't the one he sent. I just want to make sure I get my full refund back and I can send him his item back without him scamming me out of my money.

Hi ZBhura92,

I am sorry about your issue. Please, do not close the case before resolving your issue. If you have opened a dispute, you may escalate your dispute to a claim. Here is how https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-escalate-a-dispute-to-a-claim-faq822?app=search....

I hope this helps.
