Paypal wants date of birth of 3rd party

Hi there,

I have a really weird issue. I'm going to attend a book fair in Amsterdam.  I sent some money to the organizers in Holland to pay for a canal trip for myself and a writer acquaintance (let's call him Steve). This acquaintance was mentioned in the text, as in "Payment for Steve and me for the canal trip". Next thing I receive a message from PayPal which asks me for Steve's date of birth. Steve and I are not related or in a relationship. When I told Steve that PayPal wants his date of birth, he was not happy. This to me is a blatant breach of data protection. I have no problem handing over MY DATA, but not somebody else's. Has anybody in this community come across this before? I'm actually baffled.

Hello - how did you resolve this? I am having the same issue! It’s a clear breach of data protection laws
