I think I just bought items from a Chinese counterfeit website. As soon as I did, I messaged my bank and paypal and opened a case via the resolution centre. I am very anxious about this. Does paypal hold onto funds atleast whilst it is being reviewed like they do on ebay?

Hi @Fkmelad. Thank you for trusting Paypal. As soon as the case is successfully opened, the funds will be automatically held. Please keep an eye on your email to get updates on your case, and make sure to respond on the email in a timely manner to get the better chance of winning the case in your favor. Hope I was able to give you the peace of mind you deserve. Stay safe.

Hello Thanks for your reply. What is PayPal's policy on companies selling counterfeit items and scamming people? I have opened a case by another agent who says I still have to go through the normal resolution process and wait for the company to either reply or ship the product even though it is evident that it is a complete scam. This can take 20 days. I have outlined what has happened below: 1. The website in question is this: https://backpack.ronbackpack.com/index.php?main_page=index. This is the authentic website: https://www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/kanken They use the same logo, advertise through Facebook. However, they are clearly not the well known designer brand, Fjallraven (a well known back pack company). 2. Unfortunately, I fell for this and paid over £50 through PayPal. The company has no address listed has been unresponsive and uses multiple email addresses (hotmail, not a business mail). I can also show you the email addresses and interaction. 3. As soon as I pay, I see that there is something wrong, so I contact PayPal and go through the resolution centre where my claim is denied on the grounds that I authorised the payment, even though the company is clearly selling counterfeit items. I have checked Reddit and other websites and have found they are clearly scammers. 4. I managed to contact someone on your messaging service who opened a case saying it is more an non- received item rather than unauthorised. 5. I have checked the company's website and they have now removed PayPal as one of their options, as soon as I opened a case. This, I believe, is further evidence of their criminal activity. I have tried to follow the steps as quickly as I can, but I am still being told that I have to wait for this fake company to either send the product or get in contact, even though they are not a real company and are outrageously selling counterfeit products, using the company's logo. I want a second opinion on the process, which I think is ludicrous seeing as though they are fake and PayPal allows any company to register with them, despite it being criminal. Part of the reason I though it was legitimate was because they had the option to pay through PayPal. I would like another opinion on this, as it just seems baffling.

Hi I just wrote a very long message outlining my experience with a company selling fake products and it was removed? I wanted to know what your procedures are with regards to counterfeit websites blatantly selling designer brands and PayPal allowing them to use their payment methods? This is the website: https://backpack.ronbackpack.com/index.php?main_page=product&pID=228 They removed the option to pay through paypal as soon as I opened a case?

Hi @Fkmelad thank you for bringing this up to our attention. If you come across a suspicious link or website, it's always better to tell us. Just copy and paste the site’s URL into an email message and send it to spoof@paypal.com. Our security experts will investigate, and if it's a bad website, we will get it shut down. Reporting a suspicious link helps protect yourself and other people too. Based on the website you've provided it looks like it's no longer existing. I highly suggest if you open a dispute kindly attach that seller's website and you can also share on your dispute that at this point you have no way to contact the seller. Great news! You have buyer protection and we'll help you get your money back. I added a link on how to file a dispute with PayPal? https://www.paypal.com/uk/smarthelp/article/what-if-i-didn't-receive-my-item-or-it's-not-as-advertis... If this post or any other was helpful, please enrich the community by giving kudos or accepting it as a solution. Stay safe and take care.
