Illegal game refund possible?

Hello PayPal Help Community! So over the past few weeks I’ve played this really fun Pokémon game. I’ve put in more than I would like to admit, for only virtual rewards. It has recently come to my attention that this game is in fact illegal and copywritten, and I do not want to support that. I was wondering, is it possible to dispute the payments and win? Now I’ve been asked “How did you not realize it was copyright?” And they’re right… I’m not sure how. The game was on the App Store, since removed due to the game developers worried about copyright infringement, and knowing that apps are reviewed before sent to the market, I had assumed it was safe to trust. I straight up asked the developers for a refund, close to 0 chance of them agreeing, and that is what happened. They said they don’t do refunds. However keep in mind they do not have a refund policy anywhere stating they do/don’t refund. This money could best be spent elsewhere. And yes I know, I spent the money, etc etc. However, since learning of their illegal-ness, and since the only for of payment is now via PayPal (on apple and google), figured I’d ask here. I’m not sure how an illegal game even partnered with PayPal as a transaction partner… but hopefully something can be done. I know this was long, thank you for viewing and please let me know if I have any chance of winning a chargeback if the developers further refuse a refund.

Hello @danr82,

Welcome to PayPal Community! I realize that you are wanting to dispute charges that were completed on a game. However, we do not have a category that you would be able to dispute the charges under.

Does PayPal cover my purchase if there's a problem? (Purchase Protection for buyers)

Please review the link above for more information.

I hope this helps!
