I paid for a conference a year ago. They had to cancel the conference due to covid. They refused to refund me and said they will roll over the price of the ticket to this year. Now for his year's conference, they have raised the price tremendously and refuse to give me back my money. They say they will refund me "If they make above their costs". If they don't, my money will be used to cover their expenses. So, basically, I paid for a conference that was canceled and they forced me to roll it over to this year. They increased the price per ticket to $300 instead of $150. My option is to pay the difference or hopefully get a refund if they make more than their cost.
