Do I need to pay to release pay pal payment

I listed car parts for sale, the buyer asked I open a paypal account. He now advises I need to pay money in at spar to activate the paypal account to release the payment he has made. Is this correct? Please can someone help...

This is what you need to do at Spar... Just go to Spar with the cash you want to send and your ID book, tell them you want to send money they will then request for a name and cellphone number of the receiver of the money. You will need to use your cellphone number as the receiver of the money so that the voucher number can be sent to your cellphone. Once the voucher number has been automatically sent to your cellphone number, you will need to forward the voucher number and pin to PayPal so they can credit your account and everything will be sorted. you see you are actually sending money to your own cellphone number and that means the money will still be in your possession, PayPal just need the proof of payment for the agent's fee, let's say its part of their verification process. I'm from Free State but presently on the rig off shore here in the USA. I hope this help

This is a scam.

PayPal does not require proof of payment to a third party to release your money. PayPal may require proof of delivery with a tracking number to release money sooner but its optional, you can wait until PayPal releases money but still a record of payment will show in your account before you ship order if payment is really sent.

The "on the rig off shore here in the USA" story is characteristic of scams. Some would say they are in the military overseas or traveling abroad for work at the moment.

The payment process described by the buyer is convoluted/complicated to confuse you. Best to move on.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
