Appealing a transaction on a dormant account.

I have been on hold for 2 hrs today and finally given appeal instructions on a fraudulent transaction... that didn't work.  Luckily my bank and credit card accounts were no longer valid.  Can someone tell me how to appeal a transaction that has already been closed and judged not unauthorized?  What's funny is no one will tell me how the "back office" made it's determination or describe where the transaction originated.  I don't use this account and no others have access to it.
