Hello,

As soon as I opened my PayPal account my debit card was stolen and used online.  I have serious concerns about the security and safety in using PayPal.  I do not know how to notify anyone and I don’t know if additional personal information has been compromised.

Hi @emma1017,

I'm very sorry to hear that your card information has been compromised. If the transactions happened outside of PayPal, please make sure to report the card as stolen to the bank that issued the card. You will also want to remove the card from your PayPal account to avoid accidentally trying to use the closed card.

When you entered the card information into your account, were you using a secure computer and connection? If you believe you were, please run a virus scan on that computer to see if there's any malware that may have been used to capture the data you entered. If the connection or computer was not secure or there's any malware detected, it's very possible that any personal information entered at that time was compromised.

If the activity happened in your PayPal account, it may have been the password rather than the card that was compromised. Please follow these steps to report the unauthorized access to PayPal and change the password on any site where you have used that password. Use unique passwords for each site.

I hope this helps!

Olivia
