Account has been taken over. Getting very frustrated with PayPal customer service.

I was having trouble accessing my PayPal account (I made a new account to post this). I contacted customer service to discover that someone had gained access to my account, changed my phone number and email, then opened a new account with my email address. I had to tell the rep repeatedly that I was not the one who made these changes before she decided that it was worth addressing. She finally put me through to an account specialist. After an hour and a half of being put on hold repeatedly, I was told by the amount specialist that my account would have to be frozen until I can verify my identity. I was then put on hold again, at which point my call got disconnected. I sent an email to paypal explaining the problem in detail yesterday. After sending the email, paypal said I would get a response within 24 hours. It has been about 30 hours now and I've not received any kind of response. My PayPal account is linked to my bank account and credit card. I have no idea if the account has been frozen or not, and I feel like a sitting duck waiting for PayPal to do something about this. As of yet no fraudulent charges have been made. Hopefully this gets taken care of soon.
