Device won't charge

Hi,

My device wont charge, and its the second one I've had with the same problem so I'm wondering if its me!

The red light stays on even when the device is left overnight charging through the USB port of my laptop.

Any suggestions or do I have to get a replacement AGAIN ?

Surely not?

Also, I only used it once from full charge and it told me it needed re-chariging.  So, it seems that it is discharging itself and then refusing the re-charge.  Its exactly the same problem I had with the first device I received.

HELP please !

is your laptop powered on and not sleeping when charging? USB ports on laptops dont send any power when sleeping. Secondly, the powere sent through the USB port will be considerably less than from the mains so even though it is trickling a charge it might not be enough.

I have a question myself actually, does the PPH device charge even if it powered off or does it need to be on standby while charging?

Many thanks for your reply.  Yes, I have put it on mains USB charge overnight and now the bluetooth icon is flashing.  I was expecting the light on the side to go green when it is fully charged but its stil red.  However when I hold down the yellow key all the green lights com on, which, I think, indicates a full charge.

Should I also switch it off between use?  Or does it self-shut down after a shoft time of inactivity ?

Thnks in advance

Hi AnnieG3,

If the card reader is turned on and continuously connected to the PayPal Here app, the battery gets drained quicker. When the card reader is not needed for a little while, close the app and the card reader will go into standby.

When the card reader is in standby mode it still uses a bit of battery and a full battery. If the card reader is not being used it is best to switch it off completely by holding the on/off button got 5 seconds.  The card reader is completely off if it does not turn on again after you press any of the keys on the keypad.

Hope this helps,

Siobhan

Thanks Siobhan. Yes I had left the App on so perhaps that's why it discharged after one use. But shouldn't the light by the charging cable go green when it's fully charged?

Hi AnnieG3,

Not necessarily, when the card reader is connected, you can check its battery by going into the PayPal Here app and tapping the menu icon, then Card Readers.

To test the battery status when the card reader is not connected to your mobile device, hold down the cancel button (the yellow arrow) on the card reader for a few seconds. The PIN lights will indicate the battery status, for example if 3 of the six lights are lit, the battery is 50% charged.
