Battery issues

I have had PayPal here about two months now and only carried out one test transaction which worked ok, I am hoping to use it next month at the local fare.

However I too found that the battery did not last long at all so after a lot of reading I tried various things, Tried the factory reset but then found that I could not pair the device. I then tried normal reset and was able to pair the device again.

At the moment after a full charge, and on standby mode only the battery seems to go down at the rate of 3% an hour (without making any transactions).

STANDBY MODE

  1. Minimise the app but do not log off
  2. The device prompts you to open the app as it looses connection
  3. If you do not open the app again the device goes to sleep
  4. When you want to connect again open the app and press any number and a few seconds later it connects ready to accept the transaction.
  5. I have been looking at battery state every hour and after 4 hours on standby it says 88%
  6. When inserting the USB cable into card reader you do have to make sure that you insert it fully (you should hear a faint click)
  7. Aftet 10 hours on standby with hourly connection to the device the battery state reads 70%

TO CHECK THE BATTERY STATE

Go to the app andtap on Menu bars and go to "Card Reader" link the device will then show you battery state.

SWITCHING OFF

This is where I may have gone wrong before, when you switch off you have to hold the power button pressed in for few seconds and wait until the device powers off.

When switched off,  press any key on the keypad  if it stays switched off then you have achieved the goal if it wakes up then it did not switch off and was in standby mode.

This may explain why when fully charged the day before the deivice is dead the next day.  The proof of the pudding will be when I test it for real next month..

MY BACKUP PLAN

Once I have established that it is safe to use, I will use battery booster (car battery booster) which has  cigar lighter socket in which I will be looking at inserting a car cigar lighter adapter that has a USB connection so that if required I can recharge the device even out in the field.

I will email PayPal and ask them if it is ok to use 12 volt system to charge the unit using USB cable supplied.
