refund on scam?

Hi bought something from gumtree but on payapl its payment not purchase am I covered as now I have found out its a scam?

How did you pay, what option did you use?

cannot remember

Used payapal 

he sent me a long detailed paypal reqyuest with details of item sold and deliverybut cannot remeber ticking box that it was a sale or services or family etc

on paypal it just says @"payment"
