Creating an invoice for a customer already established with us

I have found that it is pretty easy to create invoices for our customers. But I find it impossible to create one for a customer that I have already invoiced in the past. It is very frustrating to not be able to pull up their info from a saved list - and then create. I always have to type in all of their info from scratch. Email, name, address, phone, etc. What am I doing wrong?
