Primary billing source is credit card?

From what I've read so far, it seems like I have the exact opposite problem:

I have a bank account linked to PayPal FIRST, however, PayPal only charges everything to my credit card?

I only want the credit card as a backup source in case my bank account doesn't have enough (which I always make sure it does before I make any payments at all).  But I can't seem to find any way to change the primary billing source...

I have the same problem.  I've used paypal for years and this just started happening.  Anyone know what the cause and resolution is?

I understand that it can be hard for them to know what exactly is the problem, but is there really no easy way to solve it?

For instance: how about instead of PICKING one for us, it allows us to choose our own primary billing source.  I mean, every single way that's offered is a valid way to pay, so why not let us choose which way?  Should be an easy enough option to create...

I have the opposite problem, I want them to use my credit card first, then checking.  But you are right, WHY ISN"T THERE A CHOICE????  Paypal is getting more and more difficult to use all the time...argh!

I just called customer service and they could not tell me why it's happening especially since I have 2 verified bank accounts and a confirmed back up credit card.  I was told to "wait and see what happens" and if it's not fixed in a week then call back.  Nice....I don't blame the customer service rep but that's just not an acceptable answer.  I'm lucky I don't have any real need for Paypal right now.

Hello everyone!  I know this is a bit frustrating.  Let me help provide some clarification that might help you out.

Currently, the order in which payments are made are as follows:

  1. PayPal Balance
  2. Instant Transfer from your bank account
  3. PayPal Credit
  4. Debit card
  5. Credit card
  6. eCheck (Bank Account)

There are rare exceptions to this hierarchy.  If you have a billing agreement set up with a vendor, the funds may automatically pull from the credit card on your account.  If you have automatic billing agreements set up you can change the primary funding sources for those by:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Click "Profile" at the top of the page.
  3. Click "Pay List" in the Financial Information column.
  4. Select a billing agreement.
  5. Under Payment Method, click ”Change" and follow the directions to change your backup payment method.

I hope this helps correct any situations you may be running into.

Thanks for the response Warren but when I go into my Profile under Financial Information I have no option for "Pay List".  Any other suggestions?
