scam emails

Hello, (We would always address you by your full name as it appears on your account)

As part of our security measures, we regularly screen activity in the PayPal system. We recently contacted you after noticing an issue on your account.

We requested information from you for the following reason:

We have reason to believe that your account was accessed by a third party. (At this point you should check your PayPal account by logging in outside of this email. You will notice there is no such email) We have limited access to sensitive PayPal account features in case your account has been accessed by an unauthorized third party. We understand that having limited access can be an inconvenience, but protecting your account is our primary concern.

Case ID Number: PP-661-601-986 (I've checked and this case number is totally unrelated)

This is a third and final reminder to log in to PayPal as soon as possible. (We would never put a 'final reminder' on your limitation like this)

Once you log in, you will be provided with steps to restore your account access. We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure account safety.

In accordance with PayPal's User Agreement, your account access will remain limited until the issue has been resolved. Unfortunately, if access to your account remains limited for an extended period of time, it may result in further limitations or eventual account closure. We encourage you to log in to your PayPal account as soon as possible to help avoid this.

To review your account and some or all of the information that PayPal used to make its decision to limit your account access, please visit the Resolution Center. If, after reviewing your account information, you seek further clarification regarding your account access, please contact PayPal by visiting the Help Center and clicking "Contact Us".

We thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Please understand that this is a security measure intended to help protect you and your account. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks,

PayPal Account Review Department

Thanks for this. I received an email that contained most of the red text but also had a yellow "Activate" button. No trace in PP account as predicted.

Ip address of sender is: 174.132.130.130

The email said my account had been limited. Of course it had not so if you recieve an email from the same ip address then i would suggest not clicking any links and putting the email in your junk folder. Then sweeping it if you are on hotmail so you dont risk giving out any information or getting something bad on your computer.

I hope this helps

Hi all,

I'm guessing this is also a scam email given it's not addressing me by my name but just in case someone else gets it -please can someone from Paypal confirm this is a scam, thanks- here's the body (obviously comes with an attachment):

How to restore your PayPal account

Dear PayPal Customer,

During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedure we have detected a slight error in your PayPal online account.

This might be due to the following reasons:

     1. A recent change in your personal information (ie. change of address, email address)

2. An inability to accurately verify your selected option of payment due to an internal error within our systems. Please fill in all the details that are required to complete this verification process.

To do this we have attached a form to this email. Please download the form and follow the instructions on your screen. NOTE: The form needs to be opened in a modern browser which has javascript enabled (ex: Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3, Safari 3, Opera 9)

Please understand that this is a security measure intended to help protect you and your account. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to temporary suspend your account.

Please do not reply to this e-mail. Mail sent to this address cannot be answered. For assistance, log in to your PayPal account and choose the "Help Centre" link in the footer of any page.

Yours sincerely, PayPal

Hi Minimoog79,

Welcome to the UK Community Forum and thanks for posting!

Yes you are right – this is not a genuine PayPal email. If you get a chance, could you forward it to spoof@paypal.com?

Thanks,

Maria

I got this one today...

Dear PayPal member,

We emailed you a little while ago about an issue with your account. Because
of this issue, we've limited what you can do with your account.

What's the problem?

Your account was accessed by a third party who changed some of your account information. We understand it's frustrating and inconvenient to have your account permanently limited, but this is a security measure intended to help protect you and your account.

What to do next?

For reasons relating to the safe use of the PayPal service we need you
to update your account information, click the link below to update now.

Update your account now.

You are strictly advised to match your details correctly to avoid suspending your account as it may have been used for fraudulent purposes.

Yours sincerely,

PayPal

I'm really annoyed with these emails.

I keep sending them to spoof@paypal.com,  but nothing seems to happen.

Clicking on Properties for the "Sign in Link",  I see that it references:  http://www.zhangfengart.com/images/secure.html?https://www.paypal.co.uk

Can paypal take some action against this server / webhost?
