Why am I being asked to add funds to my paypal ac before I pay a dollar invoice?

I have been sent a payment request in dollars but I am getting the message: "You must add funds to your PayPal account before sending more money." This will take 3-5 days. I can usually make payments charged direct to my bank account so why is this asking for something different? The invoice value is $160. Online help has been no help.

Hi there Agnisbet,

 

I am unable to determine why exactly it is that you are unable to make this payment instantly from your PayPal account. There are a few possible reasons but my best advice would be to try and contact customer services by clicking the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of any PayPal webpage. When you contact us, we can investigate your query directly on your account for you.

Thank you, David. I tried using my Paypal Android App and it was asking for a transaction id but no indication of where to get one from! Today I had another go on the website and it just worked. One of those little technology mysteries.
