Hey there, here is a question I received recently.

my son in USA has a PAY PAL account. I want to send him some money. Do I need an account myself? I have used Pay Pal to pay for things before so have a password. If I send money do I put it in in £'s or do I have to convert it and put dollars. Can I use my Debit card?

Hey there Jenny, as you have a password all you need to do is log in to your account and click on the 'Send Money' tab, enter the email address of the recipient and the amount and currency of the payment.

As you are sending money to your son you can send a personal payment as a gift. There are no fees when using your bank account or PayPal balance as the funding source, however,  if you are using your credit or debit card a fee of 3.4% + £0.20 GBP will be charged. When sending the payment you will be given the choice to pay the fee or you can leave it to be paid on your sons side.

You do not have to change the currency yourself. If using your credit/debit card you will have the option, during the send money process, to choose either PayPal or your card to do the conversion. If payment is funded by your bank or PayPal balance PayPal will do the conversation.

I hope this helps
