PayPal won't let me use funds transfered.

I linked my bank account to my PayPal account. I am trying to subscribe to Netflix using PayPal, and even though I have money on my PayPal account, it is still asking for a credit card.  Can anyone tell me why?  I thought PayPal was supposed to use the balance you have on your PayPal account.

Hey there lizzy123,

Subscriptions don't take eCheque payments, as a result a card is needed to significantly reduce the chance of eCheques being sent.

Although you have a balance, a balance is not a reliable funding source as this can change and be sent for other payments so it’s not guaranteed to be there.

You can add a debit card if you don't wish to use a credit card. We will treat your debit card like a credit card when registered on your PayPal account.

Well thats funny since I have had a Netflix account for months, being withdrawn from my bank account, until May 1st rolled around. I seriously am not impressed with this change. So now that I have to use my credit card, why do I need a paypal account? Yes, I guess I "have" to have one to shop on Ebay, but I would rather not use it at all anymore if this is how things are going to be.

Hey there, you don’t have to use the card to fund the subscription.  But you must have an active card on your account so that instant payment can be made. We advance money to your subscription in the knowledge that should funds fail from your bank after a few days we can always go to your card. Without the card, the only option is eCheck.
