First Payment - PAYPAL FUNDING

Hello I just joined fhe forums and I am hoping another community member or more preferably a Paypal mod to respond. I used my card for a service yesterday and it cost exactly £1. I check my Nationwide account and sure enough I have been charged £1. I look at my bank today and it says I've been charged £1 again. Now the second payment hasn't shown as a statement but I am expecting it to be regarding to the service I just used. However what is this "First Payment" thing? Will I be charged in the future? Also, I did not use my account for this transaction instead I used the debit card option.

have you just added a card to your paypal account? If so then >>>

To link your card:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Click Wallet at the top of the page.
  3. Click Edit next to the card you want to update.
  4. Click Link and Confirm My Card.
  5. Click Save and Continue.

When you click ‘Save and Continue’, we'll charge your card £1. This will 'link' your card. We'll refund the money into your PayPal account within 24 hours of you confirming your card.

Check your card statement within 2-3 working days and find the randomly generated 4-digit PayPal code beside, or near the £1 charge.

The code will be printed next to the word 'PAYPAL'. If your online card statement shows pending transactions you may be able to see the code within minutes. If you can't check your statement online, you can wait for your next paper statement or contact your bank.

Once you have the code, you can then confirm your card by following the below steps:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.

Click Wallet at the top of the page.

  1. Click on the card you need to confirm.
  2. Click Enter PayPal Code.
  3. Enter the requested information and click Confirm Card.

Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Hi, thank you for the swift and responsive answer! However I believe those steps do not apply to my situation; I did not use my Paypal account for this purchase instead I have used a "Pay-As-You-Go" method via Paypal. I am able to put my card details onto the form and after I am able to pay just like that - no signing in. So as you can imagine I don't know why Paypal would charge my account from my card when I didn't use my account but the card on it's own. EDIT: On my Paypal account I have verified my bank card and the such anyway and they are linked. But like I said above, I chose not to use my account but the card.

I finally understand what happened now. I used my sort code and account number and therefore Paypal system thought I wanted to open a Direct Debit through my bank. Sorry. I cancelled the Direct Debit after paying it and the buyer has been paid sucessfully as shown on my statement this evening. However with that being said; I did mess around with my account. I sent a £1 from my bank to my paypal for funds and it says its arrival will be on the 10th sep. I have removed my card and put it back on Paypal. Will this affect the transfer or will paypal use the bank society that is registered on paypal to do this?
