Hi,
I've turned here as phoning paypal proved fruitless.
I have two emails from my brothers email/paypal account telling me he had sent me money, they have transaction IDs which give me an error when I sign in to paypal.
However these funds were never received in to my paypal account.
When I spoke on the phone to paypal, they said he could have sent it to the wrong email address. if that is the case then why did I receive emails telling me the money was sent?
Unfortunately I am currently unable to contact my brother to confirm if the money was taken from his account. This was the only other advice I was given from paypal.
I have no other email addresses linked to to my paypal account.
Any help from anyone would be deeply appreciated.

Hi there CharlesDarwin,
Really you need to speak to your brother. If he sent the payment then he has not sent it to an email address that is registered and confirmed on your PayPal account. Are you sure you do not have 2 PayPal accounts?
These emails do not sound like they were from PayPal as you would see the payments reflecting in your PayPal account.

Hi Siobhan,
I appreciate the reply.
I know for certain that I do not have two emails attached to my paypal account.
I can discount that theory profusely.
Since setting up the account I have hardly used paypal. I have only used it to receive payments from my brother, only one of which ever came through. This was in Febuary of this year, I then received an email in March from paypal telling me my credit card had been removed from my account as it was going to expire soon, although this wasn't the case. It doesn't expire till 2013. I realise that paypal is a professional company but errors can exist. Two payments made to me in July and the November were sent from my brother but never received.
As for the emails being bogus, I spoke to my brother after the payments were made and he asked me if I had received the money. I said I had although stupidly did not check the balance on my account at the time. I thought the emails stating that the money had been sent by him were proof enough that the money had been received. I can only presume that the emails are legitimate.
When I spoke on the phone to paypal I asked them about these emails and whether they could use the transaction IDs to look at where they led to, I was fobbed off and the operator quickly got me off the phone.
The emails contain a paypal email ID at the bottom, surely this can be traced back to the source? Is there no information that can found from these emails? I woul think that paypal would be able to check.
Unfortunately due to my brothers work, I am unable to contact him.
Again, thank you.

Transaction ID can be checkable by PayPal.
I am bit curious whther your email address is confirmed. Go to Profile -> My details and check whether your email is confirmed. if it is confirmed then contact PayPal customer service and ask them to search your account by your email to check your email address is not linked anywhere else.
