Direct Debit not taken

I recently purchased an item and selected to pay using Paypal Credit. I successfully set up the Direct Debit in my Paypal account which is linked to my bank account, and this new DD also appears in my back account DD information. In Paypal it said that a DD was scheduled and the due date for the first payment was the 28th Jan, but no money was taken on the 28th, and it still hasn't been taken. There is no payment showing in either Paypal, or my bank account. I've tried to contact Paypal to find out what the problem is, but haven't heard back yet. Any help or information is appreciated.

Thanks, I'll give them a call. There is now a £12 late payment charge, for the money THEY haven't taken!!!!

I have a direct debit set up but payment was not taken on the date set, 10th Sept. I have just been charged the £12 late payment fee also.

Thought I'd post the response I got (after chasing a response)...

 

Dear Craig,

Thank you for contacting PayPal Credit.

I have refunded you the late payment fee of £12 as a goodwill gesture. This will be reflected on your next statement (16/10/2016). The refunded fee will appear as a "late payment fee adjustment" on the statement.

I have reviewed your account and can see that you have set up a direct debit for a fixed amount of £xx.xx. The direct debit was set up on the 10/08/2016.

The reason no payment was collected from your bank account on the 10/09/2016, is because the above direct debit is designed to skip the first due date after the direct debit set up. In other words, it was not effective on the 10/09/2016.

I can confirm that your direct debit is effective now and that it will pull on your next due date (11/10/2016).

Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for choosing PayPal.

So apparently PayPal's direct debit system does not work like anyone elses in the world, where I woudl expect it to be taken from my account, a month from the set up date.
