Cannot add money to PayPal account from confirmed bank account

I am trying to add money to my PayPal account from my bank account.  Every time I try though it says 'Unable to process your request'.  I only confirmed the account this morning; do I have to wait a while before it's allowed or is there something wrong with the website?

In my Wallet, it says that my bank account is confirmed but when I click on my card it comes up saying to enter the 4 digit code they send to my card.  I can't see this code on my online statement.  Is this what's preventing me from transferring money?  The error message doens't really tell me anything about the problem.

Are you trying to add funds from your actual bank account via the direct debit mandate OR from a debit card?

I think the Direct Debit option?  Where it's automated by PayPal and I don't have to give any instructions to my bank...

Yeah, just checked.  I'm clicking 'Add Funds' and then selecting the option where PayPal does it via Direct Debit.  I then choose the bank account by Account Number (so, rather than by card) and the amount to transfer.  When I click submit though, it just says it was unable to process...

Paypal like you to have a back up card as well before you can use funds in your paypal balance.

So it could be they want you to finish confirming your card first.

You added the 4 digit code and confirmed your bank account presumably?

When you added your card did you do the same thing?

OK then i would wait till your card is confirmed and then try again.

Can i ask why you want to add funds to your paypal balance?

You do know that as a buyer you do not need to?

When you pay a seller paypal will CREDIT them in advance and then they will take the wait for your funds to transfer directly from your funding source. This is so you get your item more quickly.

I'm trying to organise an event with a load of people and want to keep all the money for it in my PayPal account so that it's separate from my personal account.  I can then easier monitor everyones deposit and when the full amount has been reached.

I'm trying to get them to put the money directly into my PayPal account, but some of them are fussy and just transfer straight to my bank account!  Hence, I need to transfer their money across.

Confirmation code should come through tomorrow so I'll try again then and get back to you - thanks.

OK first thing, IF you have funds in your paypal account balance and BUY something then paypal will always use those funds rather than your bank account or card so be aware of that when you transfer those funds.

Also if you are getting folks to just pay money into your account then be careful you are not charged fees.

It is only free when they use the personal payment option ie family / friends AND fund it via their bank accounts or funds in their paypal balance.

If they use a card you will be charged a fee to receive the money.
