Bank Payments

Hi,

I recently tried to purchase a product from Ebay.  It was an urgent purchase and I had spoken to the seller who advised me as long as I made a payment directly from my bank account, they would receive the money immediately and no time would be lost to dispense the item.

Everything seemed to be in order, there were enough funds in my account, the amount was withdrawn from my account through paypal but was then returned on the same day.  As a result I of course was too late to make the purchase.

I don't understand why this happened. It's so incredibly frustrating.  To my knowledge I had done everything as I should so why did this happen?  I'm obviously concerned about investing the time and effort into another purchase in case this should happen again.

Can someone please help?  I tried to contact Paypal directly (over a month ago) and received no reply.

Thanks 🙂

Hi there Aquagreenbee,

To be honest, it's very hard to know exactly why the original payment was refunded back to your account in the first place. Have you tried checking what type of payment was sent to your seller when you sent the original bank funded payment to them? Was it an instant bank transfer or an eCheck payment?

If it was an eCheck payment, the funds would have been placed on a 'Pending' status until they complete processing from your bank account between 5 and 7 working days after you send the payment. Then the funds would be released to your sellers account. Your seller may have cancelled the payment as it wasn't instant. And an eCheck payment may have been sent if you had no credit or debit card on your account or if your card was due to expire soon.

If the funds were sent as an instant bank transfer, I can't think of any reason as to why the payment would have been cancelled after you sent the payment.

I hope this helps and if you need any further assistance please let me know Smiley Happy.

David.
