adding a co-operative debit card to account and reverifying it

Hi:

Many years ago, I opened a paypal account and because when verifying my debit card, the four digit code never appeared in my bank statement. I logged out of the account and simply forgot about it and simply removed the card details when emailed it was about to expire.

Now though, I want to starting the account again but I get this error message when entering my card details "this card was refused by the bank who issued it. I cannot understand this  as they are exactly the same details apart from the new valid and expiry dates that were accepted by paypal originally, does there need to be a minimium amount of funds in the account for the card to be added and what is the limit?

If and when, I'm able to add my debit card, is there anyway, that the account can be re-verified e.g. my account being reset so I can enter the new 4 digit verification code when it is sent to my account?

Also I have had no problems whatsoever, purchasing item with this card with other online retailers such as Amazon UK, Play.com and Dabs.com

I contacted paypal customer service, who were very helpful and tried various solutions to the problem but could not find a reason that would stop my card being added at their end so suggested I contact my bank. Which I did immediately and after discussing the problem with a lovely lady could not find any problems at their end either until she suggested that paypal when adding a card to the account requires at least a £ or 2, to be in the account before it can be added. Which wasn't the case at this time, as I currently maintain the account exclusively for online shopping and only puit money in as and when required.

So long story short will be putting money into the account come the new year and hopefully as the bank representive pointed out there should be no problems at all.

I just feel very foolish for not realizing this could be the problem soonerSmiley Embarassed

Many Thanks.

Hi there Devil8q,

Welcome to the Community!

If you are facing difficulties when trying to add your credit/debit card to your account, you can try contacting customer services directly and we will be able to investigate this further on your behalf. We can try to help you with getting your card added to your account for you.

Once your card has been added, you should be able to request the four digit verification code to be sent to your card again and then you will be able to successfully verify your card when you can see the code on your statement within a few days.

Please let me know how it goes.

David.

Hi

I have a problem regarding this subject.

I added a new card with minimal problems.

I'm now waiting for the 4 digit code to turn up on my statement.

The payment has been taken and this was confirmed upon contacting my bank.

The question is...

How many days exactly is "a few"?

Thanks
