I can not update my automatic payment method on ebay

I have listed a number of items on ebay in the past but today I received an error message: "We show that you do not have an Automatic Payment Method (credit card, debit card or PayPal account) on file with us to pay your eBay seller fees."
I assume that I used to have an automatic payment method set up but either way I currently don't and it's stopping me from listing anything.

I go through to my ebay and click on "Change automatic payment method" which puts me through to PayPal. From there I have to "Select a funding source: Add Bank Account Add credit card". If I choose either option I end with an error because the payment method I have chosen is already linked to an account, which it should be, because I have linked my card and bank to my PayPal account so that I can pay my ebay fees etc.

What I want is for my PayPal account balance to be used when I sell and to be able to update that PayPal balance with my bank account (the latter of which I can still do).

I spoke with a member of staff from ebay using their live chat service who told me to get help here.

Hi @buckweed,

Apologies for the delay. I would suggest going straight to your PayPal account to do this as it sounds like you already have an agreement in place which just needs to be updated. You can pay your eBay seller fees automatically with money from your PayPal balance. If you don't have enough money in your PayPal account, we'll use the backup payment method you select. Your backup payment method can be a debit card, a credit card, or a bank account. You can review or modify this billing agreement through your PayPal account at any time:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click Payments.
  3. Under 'Pre-approved payments', click Manage pre-approved payments.

Hope this helps,

Siobhán
