Like thousands of British people, I now live in France and have both UK bank accounts and UK credit cards. The banks (Bank of Scotland, Halifax) and the Credit Card companies (MBNA and Virgin) are quite happy for me to have a permanent residence in France, as is Ebay but UK Paypal will not allow this. Indeed under EU law banks have to provide this service!
As my pensions are both UK based, this means I have to open a French Paypal account, then transfer money to France (paying commission or lose on currency rates) to be able to purchase items. This is ridiculous and could easily be changed by Paypal if they allowed EU addresses on their form. If Banks and Credit Card companies are happy with this then why not Paypal?
My only solution and hundreds of thousands of other British people living in Europe is to stop using Paypal and purchase directly by credit or debit card and to stop using Paypal.
I am sure that suppliers on Ebay will not be happy with this state of affairs either.
Come on Paypal catch up!
