Confusing information about address confirmation.

Hello,

I've been using PayPal for almost a year now and have never had a problem with my shipping address being unconfirmed until recently. After receiving a receipt along with my purchase, I saw that my address appears as "Unconfirmed" though my account tells me the opposite.

I use my bank account primarily and considered using AAC just in case there is a problem on my end but  I am unable to because it says that I am not qualified. I'm unsure of what to do. I don't want sellers to second guess my purchases because of this. What should I do to correct this issue? Any suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

InchoSnail-  Sorry for the confusion, more than happy to help you out.  Here's probably what's happening.  I'm sure that your address is confirmed. You can verify that through the Profile link in your account.  What you're more than likely experiencing is an address that was added from a 3rd party website (like eBay).  If you entered your ship to address there, then checked out using PayPal, our system is designed to add that address to your PayPal account as a shipping address for ease of use in future purchases.  But because this was added from a 3rd party, it can never be confirmed, even if it's the exact same address.  And these addresses are not stored on your end of the PayPal account, so you can't remove them.

That being said, you can contact our customer service and they'll be more than happy to remove any of these hidden addresses.  I would also make sure they are removed from your eBay account (if that's where you're making your purchases), and you should be good to go!

Thanks so much. This really clears everything up and makes plenty of sense considering I've used eBay. I'll be sure to contact customer service and remove my address.

Thanks again~! C:

I too am experiencing the same problem. So because this is listed this way will it ever effect a purchase being sent because address says not confirmed but yet it really is? So confusing! Thanks.

Hondacats- Well...possibly.  There are still some merchants (usually larger ones) who require a confirmed address.  At one point a while back, to be eligible for Seller Protection, you could only ship to a confirmed address. We've removed that requirement, but some merchants still require it (and honestly, we suggest it to minimize potential fraud, but it's not necessary).

The good news (if you want to look at it that way) is that in those cases, you wouldn't even be able to make the payment, which means you could go back and select the other address that's the same that should be confirmed.  Otherwise, if you send a payment and the address is unconfirmed and it shouldn't be, and the seller has an issue with that, you can always contact us and there shouldn't be a problem sending them an email explaining the situation.

This *is* confusing.  What address is PayPal comparing against as part of the SSN confirmation?  The Social Security Administration does even keep addresses anymore, if you aren't currently getting benifits.  So they must have some *old* address.  So I added my old addresses to my profile, now they say they can't confirm to newly changed addresses.  What a crock... there is no way out of this catch-22.

My address problem is at the "Add new credit card" for Paypal debit card application.  My new city name is "San Juan Capistrano" and the system says more address is too long and I should shorten it. The problem is I can't. Help???????????????????
