American Express Gift

Hello,

I recently went to check my balance on my American Express Prepaid Gift Card and this is what I saw.

6/29/2011          * PAYPAL INC MARK - Purchase with AVS $-0.99

6/29/2011          * MICROSOFT CORPORATION - Purchase with AVS $-5.42

6/29/2011          * MICROSOFT CORPORATION - Purchase with AVS $-1.00

6/29/2011          * MICROSOFT CORPORATION - Purchase with AVS $-1.00

6/29/2011          * PAYPAL INC MARK - Purchase with AVS $-1.00

6/29/2011          * PAYPAL INC MARK - Purchase with AVS $-1.00

6/29/2011 6/29/2011 RITE AID HEADQUARTERS COR - Value Load $37.00

The problem is PAYPAL INC MARK - Purchase with AVS 2 times and the $1 MICROSOFT CORPORATION - Purchase with AVS. The only things I really bought were the 0.99 and 5.42 items.

How can i get my money back?

cruzjman98-  Those dollar AVS charges are just our system trying to verify your card.  AVS stands for 'Address Verification System"; it's our way of making sure the card is open and functioning properly.  Most merchants use this process (especially gas stations).  It runs a dollar 'charge' to make sure everything is working, then within a few days it reverses that 'charge'.  So the good news is I would think that by now those have already fallen off.

I've had the same exact problem, came across this thread and decided to wait a few days but I've yet to be refunded for those $1.00 charges or the $1.95 card verification charge after I verified it with my paypal account.

Might it have to do with the fact that American Express gift cards can't have money added to them or how you're never given the option to attach a name/address to the card?

Nevermind that post, I was able to get this all resolved by calling American Express at (1-877-297-4438)  and registering my name/address to the card. Customer service was very polite and I was able to get it registered in no time 😄
