Issue regarding creation of account

I would very much appreciate help linking my credit card to my paypall account.

I see to have issues with the credit card number, I know for a fact that it is genuine, I have the card infront of me, yet I keep geting this message :

"Card Number: You have entered an invalid or partial credit or debit card number. Please check your entry and try again."

 

I do have a maestro card, which is not displayed as one of the options in the creation process.

From the Help FAQs, this may help:

 

When you add your Maestro card, you may be required to confirm it. This is also a necessary step when lifting your limits.
To link your card:

 

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Click View Limits on the Account Overview page.
  3. Tick the box next to 'Receiving Limit per year' then click Lift Limits.
  4. Click Link your card to add your card. If you have already added the card, click Start process to confirm your card.
  5. Click Save and Continue.

When you click 'Save and Continue', you authorise PayPal to charge your card with two small random amounts. Each charge will be less than £1.
You’ll find these charges on your online card statement after two to three working days or on your next paper statement.
To confirm your card, when you know the two random charges:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. In the 'To Do List' box, click Confirm my debit or credit card.
  3. Enter your amounts when prompted
  4. Click Submit.

Note:

  • The combined amount of the two charges is refunded to your PayPal account after your card is confirmed. This refund may take up to 24 hours to appear
  • PayPal strongly discourages calling your bank to get any information regarding the amount of the charges
  • UK PayPal users can have up to two active Maestro cards attached to their PayPal account.

This does not help me at all, as it is step 4, "Link and Confirm your card" with which I've had problems with initialy.

I can't enter my credit card number, doing the same thing through a different process does not help me here.
