Crazy eBay Transaction

I sold an item on eBay for $85. A guy in California was the winning bidder and paid with Paypal. I shipped the item and it was received by the purchaser. Over 90 days later the guy opens a case saying he didn't authorize payment for the item. Paypal debited me for the $85. A few days later Paypal put the money back. This morning I received another email from Paypal saying the case was decided in the purchaser's favor but Paypal wasn't going to debit me again. What's going on? How does the guy get his money back and keep the item also?

An unauthorised transaction means the account holders paypal account was hacked and some transactions made without their consent.

If paypal finds this is true then the account holder gets his money back BUT you don't lose out as long as you met all the requirements of seller protection.

So the ''buyer'' was not the ''account holder'' and does not have your item.

It seems that the buyer does live at the address the purchase was shipped to. I did communicate with the buyer via email before shipping the item. More than 90 days had passed before the buyer opened the case. In my opinion it was a crafty buyer who just wanted free stuff.

Yes of course it was the correct address, they would have changed it so they could receive the items that they bought.

Not much point in hijacking a paypal account if you have the items you want sent to the account owners address is it?

I think it was his wife or kids who bought the item without his consent.
