I am selling a collectible on Craig's List and immediately, I got 2 hits on the line. One immediately identified themselves and the other just asked if the item was still avaiable. I wanted to set up a met between the 3 of us to discuss whow I decided to sell my collectible. and one did not reply till late and I agreed to sell to the other. The guy had an unusual name, And he told me he would send the %money the next day and take care of the fees. The price of the item is $1800. One of the buyers is wanting me to send Money to "the movers" ($550) and the other wants me to cover the fees ($450). This all sounds too bogus to me. I estimate the fees to be $52.50 for this amount. Am I calculating this right??

There are also scams which neither Paypal or Ebay seller protection cannot protect you-
if your buyer files item not as described, and return a piece of soiled paper,a box of rocks or an empty box with tracking and signature confirmation, you could lose the dispute.
It is called 'switch-a-roo',popular game on Ebay .
Last year a Florida shop which has been in business for 60 years, and been an Ebay seller for several years ,it sells high end preowned watches.
It sold a $24k Rolex watch to a domestic buyer,it was shipped Fed Exp,box, watch, paper weigh 4 lbs.
Buyer wishes to return,so they issue a call tag and Fed Exp came to pick up the watch ,when the package came back to the shop,it weighs 1 lb,so they call the police and open the watch in front of the police, the watch was not there,so they filed a police report .
Then they called Ebay hi value customer service(yes,Ebay has a special group which handles anything over $1k),they were told to refund in full and take it up with Fed Exp in 3 days, else Ebay wil refund for them.
Fed Exp unlike USPS or UPS,does not offer insurance, what it offers is indemnity for item damaged or lost,100 for non jewelry max and 1k for jewelry max.
Most sellers who use Fed Exp will insure with third party, since this is a return, the seller did not insure the item.
I dont know what the outcome is,but likely the seller lost!
Unless it can nail Fed Exp for theft or negligence, otherwise all they wil get is 1k.
Big money does change hands on Ebay, and Paypal does process large payments, some buyers have approval from Paypal to make payments over 10,000 dollars, some are reviewed on case basis.
Your item is high risk, some sellers will specify local pick up so buyer can review the item before they pay, there was a time they can say local pickup and cash only, and when an out of state buyer won, they will say send us a cashier check and we will mail it to you,but Ebay may have changed the rule so they have to accept paypal as well.
You should go to Ebay seller forum and ask for more comments and suggestions, lots of veteran sellers over there .

Good luck, hope you get some and as I said read up on seller protection to cover scam postal issues etc and you should be ok.

Thanks again... I will definitly do some research on that...I was sort of wondering about the buyer guaranttee. It did seem to me that people could take advantage of that by claiming they never got something or that the box was empty. givevn that the framing is a lot of glass, I may specify local pickup. I'd hate to see the frame busted in transit and the pic cut up. That would be tragic...

Cash on collection IS the best way
Cash in hand and NO paypal fee, can't go wrong.

The problem of local delivery is that Ebay amended the rule, seller must offer both cash and Paypal or any credit card payment if you accept credit card direct.
But ask EBAY Forum,of what is the latest ?
