Paypal payment from unknown source?

Just received a Paypal notification that a random person sent me a few hundred euros. Shortly after that, this person emailed me saying it was an accident and that I should refund them. I have no interest in keeping their money, If I use the return option, I would be charge the PayPal fees. What can I do? Will PayPal charge me? If I refund the money, will I be risking anything? thanks

I think your best bet is to contact customer services direct and ask them to refund the payment for you, explain it was sent by mistake.

Click on the words "Contact" at the bottom of your paypal account summary page and use the phone option (if there is one in the country you are in) > click on the "call us" option on the left (fees "may" apply so check the cost with your phone tariff first, as you sometimes have to wait a while to connect).

When you get through don't select any options just hang on till you get transfered to an agent or say the word "agent".

When someone pays you then you are charged a fee on that payment, when you refund them the fee is refunded.

But make sure you use the ''refund'' option and not the send money option.

when i click the refund button i receive this !

You do not have enough funds in your available balance to refund the payment. You can wait until you have enough funds in your available balance.

So where is the money that he sent you as it should be in your paypal account balance?

Something strange here.  What are the details of the transaction as it appears on your PayPal activity list?

Are you working with that transaction or a link fromt he email?

It's about 1100€ gentlemen ! divided into two transactions, I emailed PayPal but it kept telling me what the gentleman above said, the same message kept appearing all the time I try to click the "refund " button! At the current time, PayPal is doing nothing to solve this problem itself, the money must have sent back, it's a serious matter! Maybe that person is suffering from losing the money, I'm just iimagining these horrible scenarios happening right now I'm just waiting the PayPal account's real owner to ask PayPal for a refund when he realizes that his money is missing because I believe there's something wrong happened to his account! I cannot keep someone's money in my account, it should be now where it belongs

Best to call PayPal CS to refund from their end because PayPal charges us the flat rate portion of the PayPal fee when refunding on our end.

Or just deduct the flat rate amount (you need to find out how much it is in your country, shouldn't be more that 35 cents?) from the total refund amount to use it to pay the flat rate fee portion and then you won't get the "don't have enough funds" error.  Does that make sense? lol

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

The first payment was 100 euro and second was 1000 euro, so when I try to refund the 1st transaction 100 euro well you know the rest of the story
