Craig's List Scam

I just received the following text messages in response to a Craig's List ad.

1)  "Is the XXXXXXX still for sale?

2)  Hi my name is XXXXX.  I am seriously interested in buying this for my husband as a surprise gift and is the price negotiable, although i am presently not within reach but i will arrange for it to be picked up by agent once the payment cleared.  Payment will be made via PayPal as it is only payment option i can access here.(if you don't have an account, log on to www.PayPal.com)1:Are you the first owner of it? 2:Why are you selling it?3:Does it has anyfault affecting it?"

My gut told me this was hokey and thanks to this forum I have pretty much confirmed it.  I wanted to share this to help someone else avoid any heart ache.

No response necessary.

I hate that we were falling for this one. I knew it didn't sound right. We did give our email address but that's as far as we went. I started calling and researching and asking questions on here and as you see... scammed with the same story. This fella is texting like crazy now. After giving the email address he says he needs to add extra money to our paypal account and when his agent comes to pick up the race car for sale, we are to give him the extra money that was deposited as shipping fees for transport back with it... we have ignored the texts and they keep coming in wanting to know if we can proceed with the money transfer.... yeah right! ... Thanks for the help folks! You saved us on this one!

I was selling a motorcycle on Craig's list & got a very simalar story, almost word for word.  The asked for my e-mail adress and requested I send $900.00 via Western Union for transport.  When I did not do that, they sent an e-mail "Rest Assured"  saying it was a safe transaction protected by Paypal's security.  I reviewed my Paypal account & saw no recent activity & thah's when I found this forum, which verified this scam.  I also forwarded their e-mail to "spoof@paypal.com".  The first red flad went up when their "English"  and grammer was out of wack.  i am very thankful to have my suspicions confirmed.  Thank you to all who contributed to this forum.

Thanks for posting this.

We had the exact same thing, word for word, with crazy bad grammer- only I got two of them the day after I posted.

I did email them back, but not with my primary address.  Did not give them my paypal address thank goodness.
