Bootleg DVDs

I recently bought a 17 Season DVD Box Set off ebay for $200, When the DVDs came in they were of pretty poor quality when on TV. The boxes and cases look nice, But when you pop the dvd in they were of pretty rough quality. I have been contacted the seller and he is really nice, a father, but says he does not have the money to refund back as it is already been spent. He said the DVDs came from an estate auction, and they were sealed up in plastic, So unless he made them himself, He would have no clue they were bootleg either.

basically my question is what are my options? I contacted Shout! Factory - Who's DVDs they are, And they said on their end there is nothing they can do about people bootleging their DVDs. I could request a refund, But as I have been researching online, That requires you to send the item back. I have also read that it is illegal to send counterfeit or bootleg items though the mail...so I don't feel safe doing that one bit. What are my option here? Am I just stuck?

You put all your proof into the message part to the seller that paypal reads when you escalate.

Anyway normally paypal will ask you for proof and send you a fax number if they need it BUT to be on the safe side i would contact customer services and tell them that you have it.

Click on the words "Contact" at the bottom of your paypal account summary > click on the "call us" option.

OR have you considered contacting Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter?

It's: https://www.facebook.com/PayPal and @AskPayPal for Twitter.

Hello,

Wanted to go and provide an update, Pay Pal did indeed rule in my favor, Getting ready to back up the DVDs and send them back shortly. Wanted to say again thank you so much for all of your help, This whole resolution thing was a 1st for me so your advice helped out greatly. You were correct in saying contact Pay Pal though facebook, They were also super helpful and provided quick responses.

Just to share a quick story before I go, I started to look on ebay for other DVD sets that I could buy to replace the once I am sending back....I contacted 2 ebay users who are also selling the 4 DVD boxsets. I contacted them both as they have the option on their page to make an offer and my offer is the money I am getting back though this return. Both said they would accept my offer, I then respond back and ask if they can confirm that the DVDs are 100% and not bootleg sets and I share the experience I just had with them. The 1st user stopped responding to me all together once I mentioned bootleg sets and the 2nd ebay user sent this message back:

"I consider that a insult nowhere in our feedback does it say we sell bootleg anything so you find someone that you feel comfortable buying from your price is $399.95 and I confirm"

For him to have that kind of reaction when all I asked was that they confirm these are 100% authentic sets....and then raise the price by $200 just makes me shake my head. Who knew bootleg dvds were starting to be such a huge thing on ebay.

Thanks again for all the help.
