Nice new Mobile App. Too bad I can't use it. Really, you rolled this out but left those of us using a security key in the lurch? Any idea how long it'll be before I'll have a fully-functioning app again?

The best (only?) solution seems to be to get the VIP (Verisign) App. It works almost exactly the same as the Google Authenticator (and why not that?). I tried my phone as my security key -- that sort-of worked but failed with eBay. VIP works! Ignore the PayPal app (at least for Android)!
VIP is not as obvious a solution mostly because PayPal seems to be pushing you to purchase the fob. If you read the options carefully, VIP shows up -- use it!

I had the opposite experience. I was able to set up eBay on my iphone but not paypal. I have the Verisign VIP app, but it isn't accepting the password for that. Nor is it accepting my account password. Nor is it accepting the suggested solution of putting the VIP key at the end of my password (as with eBay). There is all this functionality that I am completely blocked from using simply because I choose to add more layers of security to my phone - layers provided and suggested by PayPal itself. I am struggling to see any logic in this whatsoever.
Is this what happens when you become the only real player in the game? Your customers are left with "phoned in" (forgive the pun) products and unfulfilled promises of what would have been cool...if only it worked.

So, perhaps VIP is only a solution for Android. It certainly works for me while the SMS approach failed.

...and it's now 10 months later and still no solution. Life was much better when I could simply mobile login via my phone info & pin. Maybe they need to contact a stock broker for help. Using app login with a 3rd party key is not new. Very soon it's time to find another transaction provider and relegate PayPal to Ebay-only status.

I was excited because the 5.10 version of the iOS PayPal app said it now supports the PayPal security key, but when I try to login, it simply displays a page saying that the physical security key isn't supported, but the phone version is and the only option at this point is to "Register my Phone" which takes me to the security key PayPal web page.
I already have the Verisign app on my phone and it's already registered, but every time I try to log into the PayPal app, the only option I'm given is to "Register my Phone". There's no way to enter the key number, so even if I were to register my phone to receive SMS codes (I get charged per text), I couldn't enter them anyway.
I can't figure out how to actually log in into the app since it won't let me put my security key number in.
How do I enter my number?

Okay I figured out what PayPal did and it's a half hearted attempt at best. In order to sign in using two factor authentication both the following must be true:
1. Your phone must be registered to receive security key codes via SMS.
2. No other security keys can be on your account. That includes the VIP app.
#1 is bad for people who pay per SMS. #2 is bad for everyone since it means if you are in an area with no cell coverage, but still have Wifi, you won't be able to access your PayPal account at all since the only way to get in is to receive a code via SMS.
Basically, PayPal's fix requires you intentionally potentially crippling your access to PayPal.
