Unexpected change in money sent method.

For several years I have sent money to a relative using PayPal. The money has always appeared to her within 30 minutes or so, as if it were an instant transfer. Earlier this month I sent @$700, but it appeared as an e-check. What has changed and how do I change it back to an instant transfer?
In looking through the Help topics, I saw that linking a credit or debit card to the account would allow money to be sent instantly, however, I have never had the account linked to a card before. Should I now link a card to the account?

When you pay someone it is never instant, paypal credit them and then paypal wait for the funds to transfer from that funding source BUT they only normally take that risk if you have a back up funding source ie card linked to your paypal account as well.
If not then it goes as an echeck and you are the one that takes the wait.
Seems odd you could send it instantly before but as its such a large amount that may be why paypal are taking precautions this time.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.
