I recently applied for and received a PayPal MasterCard. Up to this point all I had ever done with PayPal was make payments on Ebay, and to send a bit of money to some local charities. It seems to work well enough for those things, but I would highly recommend avoiding their card offers or any other service they are pitching. The customer service experience in simply setting up the credit card that they offered me has been absolutely nightmarish. At both PayPal and at Synchrony Bank (the actual card issuer) I have waited on hold for up to 20 minutes on several occasions, navigated poorly designed phone menus, been given conflicting information, and been transferred to "someone who can help", (who actually couldn't help) more times than I care to recall.
PayPal has provided the worst service and demonstrated the greatest level of in competence that I have ever seen from a major corporation. The card has turned out to be so very nearly worthless (I did make one small purchase) that, having had it less than a month, I cut up the pieces and threw them in the trash. I am so disgusted that I would prefer not to EVER use PayPal for anything, ever again. I don't shop on ebay so much these days, and even if I pay a bit more on Amazon I would rather do that than provide a single cent to support continued incompetence at PayPal. I have a few recurring transactions that are wrapped up with PayPal, but I will make alternate arrangements for these as soon as possible. In light of the level of frustration and the incredible amount of wasted time involved with this, I plan to thank PayPal by never ever using their services again, and by sharing my opinion of the company at every opportunity.
