Foreign exchange rate imposed by PayPal

I have to inform all on the forums that PayPal from a week ago has blocked all possibilities to make payments in other currency excepting using THEIRS exchane rates. I have started to use the other way of payments because I am outraged on their greed.

In their user agreements, they say you authorize PayPal to do conversion but have the right to choose card conversion.  The option seems to not work right in the new checkout flow so you have to try and trick the site to take you to the classic checkout flow.  No idea why to change look of a site that they have to break the usability of the site.

If you have not tried it yet, use this workaround:

1. Go to the checkout, choose PayPal and fill out your login information.
2. Instead of selecting your card and the conversion options, click on Switch account (click arrow next to exchange rate) and DON'T fill anything in.
3. Open a new browser tab, go to paypal.com and log in to your account.
4. Switch back to previous tab and fill out your PayPal login information again.
5. You will be redirected to the older version of checkout, where the conversion options is working.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Thank you very very much, this has worked Smiley Very Happy

But I am sure that they will block it as soon as they finds out.

It is interesting that for last 10 days  when you try  to change the exchange rate option using the 'normal' checkout  it pops up the new PayPal window where is written;

'' Things don't appear to be working at the moment. Please try again later.''

I have tried to make a payment during day, evening, night... every time the same pop up. So this is now  theirs new exchange rate default  page. Poor people do not have any choice but to pay using their way.

So sad to be slave of money, rich wants more and more and more, until they burst.

Thank again

They will eventually disable the old checkout when the new one is more stable.  But, PayPal user agreement gives you the choice to choose who should do the conversion so it is fair game.  Me, I just shop in my local currency, no worries wth that.

I didn't make any video, only have a screenshot of the PayPay window message where is written that the service is not available. From last week is working again but during Crismass holidays for period of two-three weeks there was no option to make the payments in other currency except using the PayPal exchange rates. In this way they gained more than 10% on each transaction. I started to make the payment using my credit card but 'sharpiemarker' has send the way arround that has worked.

I'm facing the same issue now on eBay. Before at the check out, could set whatever conversion rate I want to use by clicking the link besides my credit card in eBay checkout. Now, that option just disappeared and it's forcing me to use that stupidly greedy PayPal conversation rate. Any hack around this **bleep** money grab move? Or do I need to abandon PayPal all together?

I have made some purchase today just to test it but works OK.

They must have changed something in their system recently because now they are not even proposing their exchange rate but pulling the setting from my PayPal account where I have deselected using Paypal exchange rate.

So no problem for now Although Christmas is comming and they could do prevent the selection as last year for several weeks.
