Hi,
we are a small charity based in Ireland, and use PayPal for receiving donations. It is a great facility and we recommend it to anyone who needs to make or receive donations or payments.
A Paypal fee is subtracted to each donation we receive. Can you please clarify the PayPal fee model for Irish charities, and how exactly one can verify if we indeed enjoy "Charity status" with Paypal?
Thanks a lot!
You have to ask Paypal, there is an Irish call center in Ireland.
We are just members of Paypal forum

You have to be registered charity to get discount rate otherwise standard rate applies (From 3.4% to as low as 1.9% + 20p per transaction depending on your amount received monthly).
Thanks for your answer! Much appreciated!
(The two links keep saying that it doesn't work "in your country" - I also tried with ie instead of uk, as Ireland is a different country from the UK. )
Anyway we are a registered charity, and we sent all the relevant papers to PayPal long ago. After a while they stopped answering altogether, then - after two years and considerable prodding - said that we had been granted Charity status. However, our account says that we have "Merchant Status". Are these the same?
Do you happen to know how can one verify his own status, and in particular, Charity status?
Thank you very much again!
It's browser cookies. Go to the PayPal site for your Country here:
https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/country-worldwide
At the navigation menus at the top, click All Business Solutions under the business menu and scroll all the way down to the bottom and click Not-For-Profit
There you can see the discount rate. If you scroll down to bottom there are some FAQs.
Click the first question and click the link there to confirm your Charity's PayPal account.
Or if needed, you can go back to the Not-For-Profit page and call the number. To see possible calling fees, scroll to bottom of that page.
