Can't pay using my balance in Euro currency

Using my US-based PayPal account, I have a balance in Euros (as well as US dollars). I wish to buy goods on eBay's German site  where the sellers accept payment in Euros. However, during the checkout process I am not allowed by PayPal to pay in Euros. I am forced to use a checking account, PayPal Credit or a credit card, and my Euro account balance is not offered as an option. Its my money, why won't PayPal let me spend it? Is this done to force me to exchange the currency at PayPal's exorbitant rate? I have messaged PayPal support twice and only received boilerplate replies.

@Moopster

All you have to do is go and click on balance > manage currencies and select euros as your ''primary'' currency.

When you have spent it you can change it back to another currency.

Thanks, that did the trick, although the checkout still said PayPal Credit it showed the correct amount to be taken from my Euro balance.

I have the same problem but this didn't work unfortunately.

Are there any other workarounds?

I see lots of people have this problem but PayPal are being pretty useless about helping.
