If you used a debit card or credit card as the funding source there is a fee - for US accounts it's 2.9% plus $0.30 USD of the amount you send. An example would be, you send $100.00 USD to a friend and you used your credit card as the funding source, the fee would be $3.20 USD ($2.90 + $0.30). When you use either your PayPal balance or a bank account or a combination of both there are no fees (assuming you're sending to someone in the U.S.).
