I made what I thought was a very straight forward purchase on Paypal to a reputable merchant. I had some funds in my Paypal account, and paid the balance with my debit card. The money has come out of both accounts, but it says "Temporary Hold" in the Paypal status. Why is that?

I had the same problem with a $22.00 purchase with $3.39 on my PayPal balance. PayPal put a hold on the $3.39 and declined the rest of the transaction and now still states it is authorizing payment even though this transaction was ordered on the 19th. It is impossible to get through on PayPal's phone system and from what I'm seeing on this forum, they aren't good at responding to email. This is frustrating!

Hello bris73 and tastano,
Welcome to the Community
When you purchase an item from a merchant, you are authorizing the merchant to capture the money from your PayPal account. After you authorize the payment, the payment will show as pending in your transactions until the merchant accepts the payment or cancels the transaction. If the merchant does not capture your payment request within 30 days, the full amount of your payment will be returned to your PayPal account or credit card.
I hope this helps!
Marily
