Sending Payments

I send $40 to my friend through their phone number using the balance in my PayPal account. However, it is not showing up in their account but has disappeared from mine and is no record of it in my history. What do I do? Did the payment go through?

what do you mean by thru their phone number?

is that their Paypal email ID?

Yes it said to send it to their phone number. There was no option for their email.
