Paypal charged the wrong payment source

Hi, ealrier today I bought Riot points for league of legends for a friend through paypal using a pre-payed credit card, i had double and tripple checked at every step that the chosen payment source is the the specified credit card, with my bank account as backup incase there was not quite enough on the card as i knew that i dont have enough in my bank account for how much i was purchasing, however after completing the transaction and deciding, just to be extra safe to check my transactions history on paypal, i find that for no reason i can think of, it had changed my payment method to be from my bank account with my own debit card as the backup for the transaction.

if at all possible i would like to know if there is a way to either get the payment source changed to the correct one, or at minimum delayed untill i can transfer funds form the credit card into my bank account so that i dont incur overdrawing fees that are not my fault

Hi TheWinged7,

I'm sorry to hear this and would be happy to help!

Unfortunately, once you have initiated the payment, there is no way to stop the funds from being transferred.

When we attempt to collect those funds from your bank, if you do not have sufficient funds to cover the transaction amount, we will attempt to take those funds from your bank again in 2-3 business days. At this point, if you still do not have the funds available in your account, we will then charge your back-up funding source.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. In the future, you will want to check to be sure that the correct funding source is selected before submitting any payments.

I had the same problem (Dec. 2014). I had picked my PayPal Credit and it went to a card that I don't use anymore nor does it have the funds. i called customer service and they said pretty much the same thing about trying to recover funds and pic or add another form of payment. I told the rep that I wanted the charge put towrds my PayPal Credit. He stated that if I made another purchase and used PayPal Credit that the new purchase and the money that is owed would transfer to my PayPal Credit. Well I tried that and it didn't work. I would like this charge to be put on my PayPal Credit. Why is this so difficult...Help!

The same thing happened to me - I made three big purchases tonight and accidentally selected the wrong credit card on file (I have two), and before I had a chance to do anything -- well if there was in fact a way to do that -- I saw my charges were already completed.

I'm sure people accidentally choose the wrong card from time to time if they have a few on file.  So there's no possible way to get a refund (originally paid with my debit card so the charges were withdrawn from my bank) and instead have those charges be changed/altered to go on my other card that I have on my account? Ugh this sucks. It's easy to make a mistake like this - you're clicking fast and trying to fill out the info, and suddenly one wrong check about the payment really messes things up for you. I feel for you who ever wrote this post.
