A donation was made to a 501(c)(3) and the percentage rate seems to be 2.9% + .30 transaction fee. To my understanding, a verified nonprofit 501(c)(3) is eligible for a reduced rate of 2.2% for donations. Does the nonprofit need to apply for this reduced rate or is the reduced rate automatically set once the PayPal account is set up as a nonprofit? If the latter is the case, then why are these donations being charged at the normal 2.9% rate? Thank you!
