I have a little rental in Mexico. I had someone from Canada send me US funds for the rental amount thru my paypal account. I was charged a fee, deducted from my payment. I don't remember this ever happening before. Does it have to do with choosing friends and family, or services. It was quite a chunk, so thinking paypal may be convenient, but not worth the fees.

Paying through "Goods or Services" requires you to pay a fee, which should be deducted from the amount you're paying. The amount of the fee depends on where you're making the payment to (International/Domestic)
However, Paying through Friends and Family, requires no Fee "UNLESS" the payment is funded by a credit card, involves a currency conversion or is a cross-border payment.
